Everything is waves.
Sound. Light. Water. Heart. Right?
When your heart stops, you flatline. No more waves. Right?
When the sounds stops, no more waves.
Everything is the same. You just gotta figure out how to see it.
People will give away everything you need to know about them.
Hello Friends! Happy to (methaphorically) see you today! What you see above is something I wish I could have curated on my own, but sadly my own brain development is just not there yet. Before I tell you who said this, I have a few things to, I guess, officially announce.
For those of you who do not know, I am currently a Pre College student at Pratt Institute in New York City studying art and design this entire month. Just on this experience alone, I could move this post in so many different directions.
But for today, I’m going to focus on why I decided to do this.
I feel like I am always on a path of self discovery, and at many times I feel like its more of a wild goose chase. One question I have never really been able to confidently answer is What do you want to do with your life?
Well to give you the short answer,
Right now, I do not even have the slightest clue.
I think this question plays a big role in what your priorities, morals, beliefs, skills, and interests are and how they all connect. You know, all the things that make you, you.
I for one still am trying to figure out all of these aspects about myself. And, how they play into my relationships with others.
As I get older, I’ve realized that it is so much harder to connect with others. We shut ourselves off from other people and reject others because of many reasons, all of which that I believe, are based in fear.
But what do I do with this knowledge? How do I move on from this.
Well that is what I learned today from the ultimate bamf, Steph Mantis.
Steph, my new ROLE MODEL is an entrepreneur, teacher, industrial designer, pizza lover, and just about anything that she puts her mind to. Because when she wants to do something, she just does it.
Steph, essentially gave my concentration class a mini ted talk today about a multitude of different things. But one of the main ideas, is that we are all fundamentally broken down as the same. Everything and everyone is the same. This is where her little waves quote comes in.
As humans, we all have this fear of being different and not being able to fit in. When in reality, when you dive deep into what makes us, us; we have the same anatomy. We share the same emotions, we just dress them up differently and get there in different times and ways. We, like all things with waves, are the same. Steph pointed this out to my class as if it was common sense. Which it honestly should be. But my fear of being different blinded that truth from me.
When I applied to Pratt, I was hoping it would lead me to answers. Answers to questions I have about myself, others, and this universe. I wanted to find, what I consider, my truth.
Because one thing that is constant about everything and everyone is that we are much more than a single prospective. We have layers. And many of them.
One thing that art and design does, is that it provides tangible forms of expression. It provides prospective to the layers of things and people I would not have been able to find on my own. It helps me reach to truth. It helps me reach to my truth.
So that I why I decided to come to Pratt.
I’ll see you guys next time. REMEMBER,
Make happy YOUR habit!
“I am very interested in art but I am instinctively more interested in truth …The more I work, the more I see differently.”
